A Tribute to a Legend

Born in Somerset, MA on November 8, 1952, Jerry Remy was a hometown kid, he developed a thick Boston accent, a sense of humor and a genuine love for baseball, mainly Red Sox baseball. Jerry Remy was drafted to MLB by the Anaheim Angels in 1971 and making his way to the majors in 1975, he played three seasons for the Angels before going to his hometown Boston Red Sox in 1978 until 1984. Jerry wasn't the best player MLB ever saw, but he would soon find his way to becoming the heart and soul of Boston Red Sox baseball for over 30 years on the Red Sox broadcast station, NESN.

"Buenos Noches Amigo's!"

A famous phrase uttered by Jerry Remy at the start of every Red Sox game, a way to welcome Spanish-speaking people to the Red Sox game. This was just one of the many and lasting ways Remy impacted fans across Red Sox nation. Beginning in 1988, Remy would be heard in the booth and would be welcomed into our living rooms every summer night around 7PM for first pitch to last pitch. When the game was brutal and the Sox were getting beat, we shut the game off, Remy kept talking. He kept broadcasting.

Beginning in 2001, Remy was paired with Don Orsillo in the broadcast booth and the two became best friends, as close as could be. Orsillo credits Remy with his career, his success and his entire professional life. Despite not returning after 2015, Remy and Orsillo remained best friends, Orsillo even said he would text Remy 3 times a day.

Remy is a beacon of hope to those battling cancer. The horrible disease had taken Remy out of the booth numerous times over the course of 2009-2021. He fought and kept coming back to the booth, his love for the game, the Red Sox and the fans had him fighting it time after time to get back to fans and get back in the booth. Remy would make an appearance during the Red Sox 2021 playoff game against the New York Yankees, the teams' longtime rival, where he threw out the first pitch. Jerry was driven in on a golf cart, hooked up to an air hose. The Red Sox routed the Yankees on their way to an ALCS showdown with the Houston Astros. On October 30, 2021, Red Sox nations' beloved "RemDawg" had passed away. A shockwave undoubtedly went through Red Sox nation as their beloved gamecaller had passed away.

An outpouring of love and support befell Red Sox nation as their beloved RemDawg was gone. There is nobody that can replace him, games will never be the same.
