 DELAYED!

According to sources within MLB, commissioner Rob Manfred is expected to announce the delay in spring training due to the ongoing labor dispute. This coming off the recent news that Manfred will hold a press conference on Thursday, 2/10. MLB owners and players have been in a lockout since early December of 2021 and as the lockout rages on into its second month, there seems to be no end in sight. Last week, MLB requested that a federal mediator join in the dispute to try and help settle the lockout, however the MLBPA rejected the use of a federal mediator meaning that no mediator will be brought in.

As the lockout continues, players have begun to voice their own frustrations. Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher, James Paxton threw his hat in the ring with a statement on twitter saying, "A significant part of Collective Bargaining is... actually bargaining". Another Sox pitcher decided it join Paxton and jumped into the fray while speaking to Sean McAdam of the Boston Sports Journal saying: "It's so frustrating to see him reducing the draft, cutting the number of minor league teams. Why, so you can save a few bucks? But it's not about saving the money; it's about killing the game" Hill said. "Ten years from now, we'll say 'Jeez, what happened to baseball?' You don't see it in the present. This is something that's going to affect the game a decade from now. That's where I have a problem with these things."

On a smaller note, the MLB has halted all steroid testing during the lockout some players may be happy about this as, in the past, players have voiced their frustrations about "random" tests or even testers showing up at their door early in the morning and needing a sample.

There appears to be no light on the horizon for MLB fans as Manfred is expected to announce a delay in spring training. At a time when most football fans have lost their team to elimination and are awaiting our national pastime, there appears to be a need to wait even longer. There appears to be no reason to keep waiting, however. According to New York Mets pitcher, Max Scherzer, who tweeted out "We don't need mediation because what we are offering is fair for both sides." Scherzer appears to be firing a shot across the bow at the MLB owners and offices by declaring that the lockout is no longer necessary because the offer players have made would resolve things.

At the end of the day, we fans are left standing here saying "we miss you, baseball". Boy, do we ever.
