Top 3 MLB Farm Systems. Who Has Help on the Way?

Top 3 MLB Farm Systems. Who Has Help on the Way?

1. BOSTON RED SOX

The Boston Red Sox have been in a flurry of moves since their 2011 collapse. They were one of the worst teams in the league in 2012, then won the World Series in 2013, back to the basement in '14, '15 in '16 they would lose in the first round of the playoffs and have DH David Ortiz retire. Not much improvement in '17. But would win the World Series in 2018, falling short in '19 and '20, a sad 60-game season in the midst of a pandemic in '21. They drafted considerably well in those down years, however. Adding the likes of Triston Casas, Jarren Duran, Nick Yorke and Bryan Bello. In exchange for playing a miserable season in '21, they drafted at #4 overall and selected Marcelo Mayer. Mayer was rated at #1 in the MLB pipeline draft talent rankings. The strength of these drafts saw the Red Sox cut their farm system position in half, from 24 in '21 to 12 in '22.

2. Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers spent tumultuous season after tumultuous season falling behind their cross-state rivals, the Houston Astros and often falling well below the .500 mark or just barley touching the mark. These seasons, however, have resulted in serious strength additions to their farm systems. In 2021, the Rangers held the number one overall pick and selected the son of former MLB pitcher Al Leiter, Jack Leiter. The year before, they selected Josh Jung at #2 overall and #12 overall in '19 Cole Winn. These players have bolstered the Rangers farm system and there is a chance that these players make major league appearances and contributions within the next 2-3 years. Moving from #21 to #11 in MLB farm system, hope is once again on the horizon, Rangers fans.

3. Washington Nationals

In our Nation's capital, joy befell the city in 2019 when the Washington Nationals would defeat the Houston Astros and capture the first World Series title in the franchise's history (between Montreal and Washington). The Honeymoon was short lived, however, as just two years removed from the World Series victory, the Nationals declared they would be sellers in 2021 at the trade deadline and traded away the likes of Max Scherzer, Jon Lester, Brad Hand, Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber. The Nationals have revamped their team and shot up the MLB rankings by 10 places from #20 to #10 by adding Keibert Ruiz, Josiah Gray, draft selections Cade Cavalli, Brady House and will select #5 overall in MLB's draft in 2022. A farm system loaded with talent and a top tier player in Juan Soto just sitting there in the majors already playing and awaiting the reinforcements.
