Season Delayed

 SEASON OFFICIALLY DELAYED

The MLB and MLBPA have both failed to come to an agreement before their self-imposed February 28th deadline and as a result us fans will now suffer an extended period of time without America's pastime to help us as we defrost ourselves from winter's bite. According to multiple MLB sources, there is no timetable anymore for the two sides to work out a deal to open the season and end the lockout. The number of games that will be missed are still not known.

The widely accepted belief is that this is the fault of the MLB and their owners as they are unwilling to agree to many things that the MLBPA wants such as more pay and better attention on minor leaguers. MLB players across the league, including the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's Mike Trout, say this is for the next generation and all signs point to that being the case. Many players agree with this sentiment even retired players, and the MLB and their owners have made no remarks to suggest that this is on the fault of the players or the MLBPA. The players accused the owners of making far too much of the deadlines and saying they are meant to try to rush players into an unfair deal.

According to sources, the MLB and MBLPA were able to find common ground on issues that were plaguing them earlier this season and preventing them from agreeing. But the biggest issue appears to be the competitive tax balance that is holding up the regular season and is the most prominent issue. This lockout is the result of a self-imposed owners' lockout, it is not a player's lockout. One common ground spot the league and players found was universal DH (designated hitter) where both the AL and NL will have a DH and no pitchers will bat. The league and MLBPA also agreed to a 12-team postseason field, international draft and a lottery for the top 5 MLB draft picks.

While its so great the owner and MLBPA found SOME common ground, us fans are left holding out hats waiting for both sides to end this lockout and get together to make baseball happen NOW!
