MLB Week One Thoughts

                                                            MLB: Week One Thoughts

With a week of baseball in the books we can take a look at how some of the games went and how teams look. First thought goes to the Toronto Blue Jays. Somebody apologize to Ms. Jackson, because they ARE FOR REAL!! Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is following in his father's footsteps and is mashing his way into the MVP conversation and looks primed to launch Toronto into the playoffs. Toronto is loaded with bats and pitching very able to launch them to October.

A weaker team, the Detroit Tigers are a team to watch out for in 2023 and especially in 2024. These Tigers are young, talented and well led. They are primed to make a very serious run within the next two years as their young prospects make their way to the majors. These Tigers aren't just reliant on their young talent, they have the ability to spend money as well and will in free agency to bring who and what they need to win.

A current surprise would be the first place Colorado Rockies. They sit at 4-1 in the NL West and the high-powered Los Angeles Dodgers sit at 3-2 in 3rd place, there's still 157 games to play, however, these Dodgers will most likely tap into their talent. Speaking of the Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw toed the rubber for them yesterday, 4/13/22, where he went 7 strong innings, 13 strikeouts and no walks...and no runs... and no hits allowed. That's right. The Dodgers pulled Clayton Kershaw with a perfect game going in the 8th inning at 80 pitches. There have been more than 220,000 MLB games played and only 23 of them were perfect where the opposing team didn't get a single hit, run or even a walk. 27 up and 27 down. Baseball minds have been slaughtering and laying waste to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts for doing so and rightfully so.

The New York Mets have a 5-2 record after one week and they are in, what many say, is the weakest division in baseball. The Marlins, Nationals and the Pirates aren't projected to go very far this year or do very well and they play them 54 times combined. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mets go 39-15 against these two teams or better. The Mets have two of the best pitchers in baseball in Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer. Scherzer is just unstoppable. It is an unfair game when he is on the mound, the man is a dominating pitcher that strikes fear in the hearts of opposing batters.

Baseball fans everywhere rejoice that they are able to watch their team compete again and see the lockout over with. Baseball is the mainstay in our hearts all season long and all summer long.

It has been with a heavy heart that I have been watching Red Sox games and I have not been able to hear excellent broadcasting, analysis and "Buenos Noches Amigos!" From New England's beloved commentator, Jerry Remy. May our RemDawg rest in peace as we watch our Sox compete with a "Remy 2" logo on their sleeves.
